A Gynecologist (Gynaecologist) is a medical doctor specializing in women’s reproductive health. They diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions related to the female reproductive system and provide care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine gynecological examinations (Pap smears, pelvic exams, breast exams).
Diagnose and treat reproductive health issues such as PCOS, endometriosis, infertility, and menstrual disorders.
Provide prenatal, antenatal, and postnatal care.
Perform deliveries (normal and cesarean sections) and manage labor complications.
Conduct family planning counseling and contraception guidance.
Perform gynecological surgeries (laparoscopy, hysterectomy, fibroid removal, etc.).
Manage menopause-related concerns and hormonal treatments.
Interpret diagnostic tests including ultrasounds, blood work, and biopsies.
Educate patients about reproductive health, hygiene, and prevention of STDs.
Maintain accurate patient records and follow medical ethics and safety guidelines.
Collaborate with nurses, obstetricians, and other healthcare professionals.
Required Skills and Qualifications
MBBS degree with MD/MS/DNB in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Valid medical license/registration.
Strong diagnostic and surgical skills.
Excellent communication and patient-handling abilities.
Ability to work in emergency and high-pressure situations.
Compassionate, detail-oriented, and ethical.
